Science- a Glimpse of God

 Men of Science

Gottfried  Wilhelm Leibnitz ( 1646-1716 )

Perhaps one of the most gifted philosophers and mathematicians; he was a co-discoverer with Newton of calculus also of the fundamental principle of energy conservation. He introduced the binary notational system and the Boolean system of logic.

Man of God

Best known for his philosophical and theological study “theodicy”” that this is the best of possible worlds. He believed strongly in God and wrote a defense of the doctrine of the holy Trinity.

Men Of Science

Michael Faraday (1791-1867)

He is universally acclaimed as one of the greatest physicists of all time! His boldest and much acknowledged  gift was in scientific experimentation. Particularly in the development  of  the new sciences of electricity and magnetism. He invented the generator and made other key inventions and discoveries.

Man of God.

By all accounts a man of deep humility and sincere belief in God , prayer and the Bible. His church which he led some of its ministries, fully agreed and fully believed in the abiding teaching which stated,” The Bible and it alone, with nothing added to it and nothing taken from it by man is the sole and sufficient guide  for each individual, at all times and in all circumstances.”

Men of Science

Humphrey Davey (1778-1829)

He was a great chemist.  Faraday , his apprentice was encouraged to pursue Science and devoted his whole life to it. Sir Humphrey was the first to isolate many chemical elements, which lead him to the motion theory of heat, to invent the safety lamp and to uncover the Diamond’s true nature being  highly compressed carbon.

Man of God

Like Faraday, he was a devout Bible believing Christian, highly altruistic and generous. In a latter period of life he dabbled with Christian mysticism. But returned to Biblical Christianity and found peaceful  living in his retired years.

Science- a Glimpse of God

Men of Science:

Blaise Pascal (1623 -1662)

Though a great mathematician and early philosopher, his contributions ranged over other disciplines. His contribution to modernity was his theory of probability. He even   played dice with God.

Man of God:

His famous Wager of Pascal is simplified as follows: “How can anyone who chooses to become a Christian? If when he dies there turns out to be no God and his faith was futile, he has lost nothing.

If however there is God and a heaven and hell, then he has gained heaven and avoided Hell.

Men of Science:

Francis Bacon (1561 -1626)

Though a Lord Chancellor of England he is also usually considered to be the prime mover for the so called: scientific method” in science, championing the use of experimentation and induction from data. He is credited with the founding of the Royal Society of London.

Man of God:

He was a great believer in the Bible; writing” there are two books laid before us to study, to prevent our falling into error; first, the volume of the Holy Scriptures, which reveal the will of God and then the volume of the creatures which express His power.”

Men of Science

Isaac Newton (1642-1727)

Of course that famous story of the apple falling from a tree helping Isaac Newton’s discovery of universal gravitation. His strong development of calculus and the 3 laws of motion. His development of the particle theory of light among other things.

Man of God

Isaac was a strong believer in the Bible and devout Christian. In fact he wrote more books on Biblical subjects than on scientific subjects. Recently the Royal Society of London re-discovered all of his religious books and was embarrassed that they had not made them more available for valuable study. Many scholars and scientists today consider him to be the greatest scientist of all time
