Unite or Divide ?

"There are many more things that unite us than things that would divide us."

This is often attributed to the marvellous African American Preacher: Martin Luther King.

I don't know if that's true but I agree with the statement.

Life, Happiness and Meaning

 Life, Happiness and Meaning:

( What's love go to do with it?)

Life never guarantees happiness, but it does offer each of us meaning.

Perhaps when we look after number one too much,we forgo the Pleasure and Meaning of helping others find Pleasure and Meaning.

What do You think or feel?

Given that every life matters, including our own, we all attempt to preserve it.

Heroes give up their own right to life and attempt to save and preserve the right to life of others. We as a society, applaud the acts of heroism and rightly so. We reward courage, determination and risk-taking, whether in a war hero,a billionaire or stay at home Mum.

Likely you were surprised by the inclusion of a Mum in the above statement? Did this really seem unlikely? Did you honestly think that acts of heroism are limited to  war and conflict in industry 🤔 ?

Ask yourself why you thought that way? Are the acts of heroism limited to the threats to life or the 'ordinary' acts of courage and selflessness in mundane life?

Bravely Fought World.

In this bravely fought world the maxim or tagline of the philosopher, Descartes: "i think therefore I am" is replaced by " i feel therefore I am right."

Agree or ?

Rough Pebble, Polished Diamond

Use of Troubles

“When in Amsterdam, Holland, last summer,” says a traveler, “I was much interested in a visit we made to a place then famous for polishing diamonds.

We saw the men engaged in the work. When a diamond is found, it is rough and dark like a common pebble. It takes a long time to polish it, and it is tough work. It is held employing a piece of metal close to the surface of a large wheel, which is kept going around. Fine diamond dust is put on this wheel and nothing else is hard enough to polish the diamond. This work is kept on for months and sometimes for several years before it is finished. And if a diamond is intended for a king, then the greater time and trouble are spent upon it.”

Jesus calls His people His jewels. To fit them for beautifying His crown, they must be polished like diamonds, and He uses the troubles He sends to polish His jewels

Encouraged and Supported

 Strengthened and upheld

‘Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yea, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.’ Isaiah 41:10

suggested further reading: Haggai 2:1–9

Are you discouraged with the great difficulties of your Christian calling? See what the Lord says—I will bless you. Though you can do nothing, yet if he helps, works in you and by you, you shall both do great things and also shall prevail. Are you afraid you shall not endure but give up at the last? How can that be when the Lord has said, I will uphold you ! Sooner the stars shall fall to the earth, than you fall from your Christian course, if the Lord guarantees to uphold you. Further, take notice of the manner in which the Lord strengthens, helps, upholds:

(i) with my right arm. This implies power (Psalm 89:13) and tenderness (Hosea 11:3; Deuteronomy 33).

(ii) of my righteousness. This shows the sure ground on which our hopes are built. The righteousness of Christ as Mediator is the fountain of all our strength, sufficiency and comfort, so long as he continues as the Righteous One. So long as his obedience unto death comes in remembrance, so long all these benefits are available and continues for and to his people. It shows that his faithfulness and truth are engaged to make these things good to waiting souls.

Promoting Beliefs?

How do We Articulate our Beliefs

As we seek ways to promote the common good, we need to promote our beliefs

When providing a public rationale, we face a choice between articulating that rationale in explicitly Christian language or with more neutral language. We often risk being ignored or misunderstood if we give a more robust and explicitly Christian rationale for our proposals. We cannot speak with the same convictional force or precision if we provide more neutral reasoning. For example, suppose a Christian is arguing against abortion. In that case, she might, in one instance, articulate her rationale in terms of the Christian doctrine of the image of God, but in another instance, focus on demonstrating the adverse effects of abortion on families and the broader society. Such choices are complex, and we must pray for wisdom and discernment about the best way to argue our points.

Man of Science + Man of God

Man of Science+Man of God

Science- a Glimpse of God

 Men of Science

Gottfried  Wilhelm Leibnitz ( 1646-1716 )

Perhaps one of the most gifted philosophers and mathematicians; he was a co-discoverer with Newton of calculus also of the fundamental principle of energy conservation. He introduced the binary notational system and the Boolean system of logic.

Man of God

Best known for his philosophical and theological study “theodicy”” that this is the best of possible worlds. He believed strongly in God and wrote a defense of the doctrine of the holy Trinity.

Men Of Science

Michael Faraday (1791-1867)

He is universally acclaimed as one of the greatest physicists of all time! His boldest and much acknowledged  gift was in scientific experimentation. Particularly in the development  of  the new sciences of electricity and magnetism. He invented the generator and made other key inventions and discoveries.

Man of God.

By all accounts a man of deep humility and sincere belief in God , prayer and the Bible. His church which he led some of its ministries, fully agreed and fully believed in the abiding teaching which stated,” The Bible and it alone, with nothing added to it and nothing taken from it by man is the sole and sufficient guide  for each individual, at all times and in all circumstances.”

Men of Science

Humphrey Davey (1778-1829)

He was a great chemist.  Faraday , his apprentice was encouraged to pursue Science and devoted his whole life to it. Sir Humphrey was the first to isolate many chemical elements, which lead him to the motion theory of heat, to invent the safety lamp and to uncover the Diamond’s true nature being  highly compressed carbon.

Man of God

Like Faraday, he was a devout Bible believing Christian, highly altruistic and generous. In a latter period of life he dabbled with Christian mysticism. But returned to Biblical Christianity and found peaceful  living in his retired years.
